Dance for your Health

The idea of being healthy has become a movement on the grandest of scales. This comes from the numerous amount of fad diets, exercise styles, and the constant talk about what it takes to be healthy.

It almost feels difficult in and of itself to know what truly works, and where to go. One thing that has not changed, is that dancing is a fabulous way to become healthier. The number of benefits that dancing provides continues to grow.

The healthy benefits of dancing:

According to an article written in the AARP magazine, “dance can – among other things — boost cardiovascular health and bone strength (because it’s weight-bearing exercise), as well as improve balance and flexibility”. http://www.aarp.org/health/fitness/info-03-2011/dance-for-health.html

Ballroom dancing isn’t just another fitness fad that will come and go. Arthur Murray has been teaching the world to dance for over 105 years. Ballroom dancing itself is centuries old. One of the best benefits you can gain is mental.

It provides one the ability to focus on something other than what their regular stressors and worries are, giving their body and mind the ability to relax. Still, for those of us that are getting older, keep in mind that ballroom dancing is known to help aid against dementia! According to a study done, among physical activities tested, only dancing was found to reduce the risk of dementia.

Keep in mind that while dancing you are not only moving, your brain is releasing endorphins (bringing about a happy mood- making it difficult to leave angry), you and your dance partner are sharing something very special together, you are able to relax and unwind, as well as challenge your brain.

Dancing is one of the best ways that is proven over and over again to help you be healthy in you mind, body, spirit, and relationships! Before you look for another fad diet, or gym, or at-home workout routine, give us a call and schedule your first free lesson!
